Stop Reaching for your Phone

How many times a day do you check your phone?

The average times per day a person check their phone is 150 times!

Why do we do this? Well, each time we check an email, scroll Facebook or like a post on Instagram, we are rewarded with a dopamine burst in our brain. Our minds begin to seek this. Do you remember the last time you felt bored and reached for your phone without consciously thinking about it, it was a natural reaction.

It's similar to slot machines, you are handsomely rewarded every so often and so you keep playing, until your out of money, time or are exhausted.

Our minds are meant to have time wander, daydream and have periods of time to process all the information coming our way. When we continue to fill it with more information, videos, articles, Facebook feeds and mindless chatter, we deny our minds the ability to do this. Symptoms of this may include:

     * feelings of distraction
* overwhelm
* lack of focus
* feeling nervous with downtime

If any of this sounds familiar, there is a great technique to be able to diminish some of the addictive quality of your phone called grayscaling. It takes out the color from your phone and its amazing what a difference it makes. Here's how to do it:

Go to Settings > General > Accessibility > Accessibility Shortcut (bottom) > Color Filters. This allows you to quickly triple-tap the home button to toggle grayscale on and off, so you keep color when you need it.

Color allows positive reinforcement in your mind, gray doesn't. This technique often helps people check their phone less.

Try it and let me know how it goes in our Facebook group!

With gratitude,
Amisha

    I am guilty, lol. It’s so hard to not reach for your phone. I feel like I may miss something. I had no idea that you can change the color to gray. I should try that.

      It’s so true, even when you’re walking there are people texting and walking. It a completely different world we are living in these days.
